Dorm Room Packing Instructions

before you pack

1. Assemble Your Box

  1. Fold the small bottom flaps inward.
  2. Fold the larger bottom flaps over them.
  3. Apply one strip of packing tape down the center seam.
  4. Apply two additional strips across the bottom seam.

Important: Do not pack boxes until the bottom has been securely taped.

2. don't overpack

Keep boxes under 50lbs whenever possible.

If you struggle to lift it, it's too heavy.

3. Pack heavy items first

Place books, shoes, and other heavy items on the bottom.

Place lighter items on top.

4. fill empty space

Use clothing, towels, blankets, or other soft items to prevent contents from shifting during transport.

5. label every box

Write:

  1. Your Name
  2. Room/Area
  3. General Contents

Example:

  • Jamie Burnham
  • Bedroom
  • Clothing

6. seal the box

When finished packing:

  1. Close the top flaps.
  2. Apply one strip of tape down the center seam.
  3. Apply two additional strips across the top.

7. do not pack

  1. Food
  2. Open Liquids
  3. Aerosol Cans
  4. Flammable Materials

8. before pickup

  1. Boxes assembled correctly.
  2. Boxes sealed.
  3. Boxes labeled.
  4. Fragile items protected.
  5. Loose items packed.
